The second-hand marketplace Users Express Anger Over Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for female and kids' apparel failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and manually change the size when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Updates
Previously, the sizes had both one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
